Riveting Reader!

We were fortunate enough to have a visiting author called Eamon Reilly come and talk to Key Stages 1 and 2 about the importance of reading and writing as a life skill. All of the children were enthused, engaged and focussed for the entire duration whilst Eamon spoke effortlessly
about becoming an author and read extracts from his wide range of books.
Some of his titles included 'Rashnu' and 'Tall Tales' which captivated the school the most and extract readings from his books can be found at -
As a result of Eamon's visit the children, across the school, have written some wonderful stories; he certainly activated a lot of our pupils' creative sides.

Hertfordshire Quality Standards Award

The Early Years Foundation Stage team have been working hard to complete the Hertfordshire Quality Standards Award for outstanding practice in the early years. After the submission of four modules looking at all areas of their practice and an inspection style visit at the end of January 2014, St Joseph’s Early Years were awarded the HQS Mark.
The inspection team commented on the commitment the staff have to offering the best possible start to the children in our care.
Receiving this award has been a combination of hard work over the past two years. A huge congratulations should go to all the staff past and present who have worked in Early Years.
A big part of the award is about reflecting on practice and the team will continue to do this to continue to offer the best start to school for all the children who are part of the family of St Josephs.

Internet Safety Information for Parents
Safer Internet Day

Earlier in the year pupils across the globe celebrated the tenth Safer Internet Day
This year's theme was 'Online rights and responsibilities' and the key message was to 'Connect with Respect.'
Our pupils explored why and how they access the internet, the pros and cons of the internet and discussed their rights and responsibilities towards others.
They considered the need to behave responsibly online to protect themselves and others by never sharing personal data and treating others with respect.

-If it is not appropriate to say something directly to someone face-to-face, it is also not appropriate online.
-Never share personal details or the details of others without their permission, including real names, address, school, phone numbers and photos.
-Tell an adult immediately if you see something that upsets or worries you.

For further information on internet safety and how to set up parental controls (for many devices) using free software, please click on the links below.
