Governors
As our school is part of the Catholic Church, the Diocese of Westminster appoints governors to hold the school in trust, and to oversee the operation of the school on behalf of the Archbishop. The governors “have a legal duty to preserve and develop the Catholic character of the school and to ensure that the school is conducted in accordance with its trust deed (RCDOW).”
The three core functions of the governing board are as follows:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent. (RCDOW)

Mrs Francoise Hackney
Foundation Governor
I live in Bishop’s Stortford with my husband and three children, of which the two youngest attended St Joseph’s, and all three subsequently attended St Marys.
Having recently been appointed as a Foundation Governor, I am looking forward to joining the St Joseph family, and working with everyone to ensure the continued success of the school and the education it provides.
I have over 25 years experience in Information/Cyber Security, working across both public and private sectors (predominantly as a consultant but also in-house), ranging from SMEs to Multinationals. In my spare time I enjoy meeting up with friends, art, reading and gardening.
